Canyoneering (as the sport is called in the USA) or canyoning (European), was not yet done in Hawai‘i. We would be the first, and we needed an expert to do it right.

Enter Dave Black. We searched the internet and the same name kept popping up: Dave Black, a well-known Utah canyoneer, ice climber and rock climber. Passionate about climbing and canyoneering for more than four decades, Dave was intrigued with the possibilities in Hawaii’s spectacular wilderness.

And then a privately-owned valley was offered to us — unheard of on Maui, a wild canyon far from busy tourism with two waterfalls and two large pools for swimming.
